The pattern is clear: every retiring exam is being replaced by an AI-first equivalent. AZ-204, once a general-purpose developer exam, now gives way to AI-200—which tests Azure OpenAI, vector databases, and AI Foundry. AZ-500 becomes SC-500, adding prompt injection defense and AI workload security. Even Power Platform and Dynamics certifications are consolidating into AB-100 (Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect).

What does this mean for you? The window to earn legacy certifications is closing fast. AI-102 exam and all its learning materials were removed from Microsoft Learn on June 30. AZ-204 has only days left. If you’re more than 70% prepared, schedule your exam immediately; if not, pivot to the replacement.

But here’s the opportunity: the new certifications are more valuable. AI-102 holders commanded 757 active U.S. job postings and salaries from $130K to $180K. The replacements—AI-103 and AI-200—focus on Agentic AI, RAG architectures, and production-grade AI systems. These are the skills employers are desperate for.
